A numerical algorithm of solving a nonlinear Kirchhoff string equation and its error

Annotation:

The initial boundary value problem for a hyperbolic type quasilinear equation is considered. Its local solution is derived by means of a numerical algorithm consisting of the Galerkin method and a symmetric difference scheme for approximation with respect to spatial and time variables, while the resulting discrete system is solved by the Picard iteration method. The total error of the algorithm is estimated.
